Honor your hero with a 2013 flag
Honor Your Hero, Sponsor A Flag.
Murrieta Rotary’s awe-inspiring, emotion-filled patriotic event, the 2013
Field of Honor returns this fall for the fifth time, the tribute flying November 9–16.
More than 2,013 flags will be posted to “honor our heroes” — veterans, past and present, emergency services providers and others important in our lives.
Flags can be sponsored for $35 each and will bear a yellow ribbon with the name of your honoree. At the end of the week-long display, the flags, poles and ribbons can be claimed by their sponsors.
Online orders are no longer being taken for this year’s Field of Honor. Please order right at the field through Nov. 15.
Flags from past Fields of Honor can be reposted if in good condition. Bring them to the Field with pole and ribbon during open hours. Fee is $10.
Motorcycle Ride Honors Our Heroes
A new event kicks off this year’s Murrieta Field of Honor, a roaring motorcycle run November 9 that departs from Temecula, wends its way to the coast and through Camp Pendleton before ending up at Town Square Park for opening ceremonies at the Field at 1 p.m.
Quaid Harley Davidson in Temecula is the 10 a.m. starting point for the ride, which offers the unique opportunity to pass through the Marines’ Camp Pendleton.
The event opens the Field of Honor that runs from November 9-16.
A $50 registration fee includes a flag on the Field dedicated to a hero of the rider’s choosing, which can be claimed at week’s end by the rider.
Each rider also receives a commemorative t-shirt and entry into the ride.
Plaease register by November 7. Register now!

Artists to create patriotic images with chalk
Murrieta Rotary seeks artists from the region to paint patriotic images with chalk at the club’s fifth annual Field of Honor scheduled for November 9-16 at Town Square Park.
Patriots Chalk Walk was added to the Field of Honor last year. The images are painted on a wide sidewalk that rings the display of more than 2,000 flags put up in perfect rows and columns.
The chalk artists are scheduled to paint on November 9, opening day of the Field. If they need the time, painting also can be done on November 10. The public is invited to watch these talents at work. The Field’s opening ceremony will be at 1 p.m. November 9, when a motorcycle ride will conclude at the event.
There is no entry fee for artists, and modest prizes are offered.
Artists can choose spaces six feet high in widths of four, six or 10 feet. This event is open to all with the ability to draw. Artists participating in the inaugural event in 2012 were as young as 10th graders.
Chalk suitable for this kind of painting will be provided.
Applications are being accepted through October 28 and must include a sketch of the art planned or a description of what is planned.
A number of spaces also will be set aside for kids on a first-come basis. The youngsters also receive a box of chalk. Information and application materials are available on the club’s website.
